Beatrice Glenice Burrows, 85

A dedicated educator

Graveside services for Beatrice Glenice Burrows, 85, of Stockton will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at Chrome Cemetery. The Rev. Gene Anderson will officiate at the services.
She died January 1, 1994, at Heritage of Stockton.
Born July 5, 1908, in California to Ira and Lena Burrows, she grew up in the Newville area and attended the Chrome School as a child.
A graduate of Chico State University, with a master's degree from Stanford, Miss Burrows began her 44-year career in education in Gazelle, Siskiyou County. She also taught in Butte City, Parker Dam, and Needles before going to the Stockton Unified School District where she taught until her retirement.
Miss Burrows encouraged and facilitated the organization of the Association for Retarded Children in Stockton in 1961, the first special education program. She received a citation for humanitarian service in 1966 from the United Cerebral Palsy Association. She was a charter member of both groups. She was a life-time member of the California Teacher's Association and a member of the Board of Education in Stockton. In 1967 she was named to the Who's Who of American Women. She was a member of the executive board of the California Association of School Psychologists and Psychotherapists.
Survivors include a niece, Glenice Villarreal of San Jose; a nephew, Robert A. Burrows of Willows; and four great-nephews. She was predeceased by one sister and two brothers.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. today at F.D. Sweet and Son of Willows, who is handling arrangements.
Donations in her memory may be made to the San Joaquin Association for Retarded Citizens in care of F.D. Sweet and Son.
