Pete Goodin, a extraordinary man passed away on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He fought a hard battle with Melanoma brain cancer and he will always be in our hearts.
Thomas "Pete" Goodin was 88 at the time of his death and he was born on Oct. 16, 1927 to G. C. "Pete" Goodin and Esther Ruth Goodin in Navarro.
Pete graduated from Mildred High School and attended Navarro Jr. College (the Barracks Bunch).
On Nov. 5, 1945 he enlisted in the Army during WWII and served in Germany from July 1946 to Aug. 1948. He was recalled to serve in 1951 during the Korean war and was stationed in Japan and Okianawa from Feb. 1951 to Sept. 1951.
He then came home and met his now wife, Audrey Steele. They were married on Nov. 27, 1952 and were married for 63 years.
After recovering from a near death auto accident in 1953, he went to work at Miller Bros. Hat Co. for 32 years. He retired and then started ranching on the family ranch (Goodin Ranch).
Pete was a very unselfish man and was a life time member of the VFW Post 3366, and also serving a charter member of the Navarro County Crime Stoppers Assn. Serving as treasury for many years. He was a pillar of his community.
He also served on the Mildred School Board and was President for the Hopewell Cemetery Association for years, he was instrumental in building the MEN Little League Field in Navarro and coached little league. Those who knew him the best knew he was a very generous and selfless man who was willing to help in any way he could. As his gift to humanity, he willed his body to science and research to the Southwest Medical School in Dallas.
Pete is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Elizabeth Goodin Nix.
He is survived by his wife; Audrey Steele Goodin, his sons; Tommy Goodin and wife Donna, Joe Bob Goodin and wife Sharron, all from Navarro; grandsons, Jackery Goodin and fiance Jennifer Simmons of Longview, Aaron Goodin and wife Jamie Mitchel of Navarro; brother, Joe David Goodin and wife Betty of Tyler; great granddaughters, Taylor Cathleen Paris, Tristin Kay Gillen, Savannah Goodin, Chyenne Goodin and Berkley Goodin. Three nieces, one nephew and several cousins.
There will be a memorial to celebrate Pete's life at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2016 located at the Corsicana Cowboy Church, two miles west of Walmart on Hwy. 31. Benny Horn will talk about all of the many wonderful memories we shared of our precious loved one.
His ashes will be entered in the Hopewell Cemetery, Navarro.
Our family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and condolences. A special thank you goes out to Cedar Lake Hospice, your service was first class. His care givers were the best we could have ever hoped for. Thank you Amanda, Shwanda, Phylis and Coteri.
In lieu of flowers, may we suggest you donate a charity of your choice or we would suggest the Hopewell Cemetery Assn.
