Doris passed away at age 97. The third of ten children, Doris learned to sew, cook, and tend her younger siblings when she was quite young herself. As was common then, Doris left school after eighth grade and began working for relatives and neighbors as a domestic helper tending children, cooking for farm hands, and cleaning. Doris worked at Heise for several summers and developed a close friendship with the Quinn family. She and Frank were married on December 28, 1936, on Butler Island, near Ririe, and they had four children. After Doris retired from R.T. French Company, she and Frank became "snow birds" and enjoyed yearly trips to Overton, NV. She was active in community theater programs there, and she and Frank danced together almost every Saturday night. They made their home in Shelley from 1971 until 2008. Doris stayed in that home for a few years where she continued to enjoy the lovely flower and vegetable gardens she and Frank had so lovingly cultivated, but she eventually moved to Lincoln Court in Idaho Falls and made new friends. She was an excellent cook and an accomplished quilter. She also loved to embroider and continued to give homemade embroidered gifts to loved ones long after her eyesight began to fail her. She also loved putting together scrapbooks and kept many photo albums. She had an excellent memory and had the best stories about everyone in those old pictures, people long gone but dearly remembered. Preceding were son Fred Sermon, brothers Archie, Jay, Gayland, and Newell Christensen, and sisters Gladys, Julia, Eva, and Annie. Survivors included: her sister Wanda Larson; sons Frank Steve (Bonnie) Sermon and Harold (Susan) Sermon; daughter Beauty (Neil) Jardine; daughter-in-law Sheila Sermon; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services held April 16th at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave,, Marv Eld officiating.
