Dema Barrow Swafford Jonas, 97, of Bloomington passed away July 22, 2016 at Garden Villa.
Born, March 4, 1919 in Bloomington, she was the daughter of Clem and Maggie (McGuire) Barrow.
Dema was the oldest member of the New Unionville Baptist Church. She was the Sunday School secretary for many years, and taught Sunday School and Bible School.
Dema was employed as an Administrative Assistant by Indiana University, American Moving and Storage, and Commercial Service.
Survivors include her children, Linda Fowler, Tom Swafford (Connie), Jerry Swafford (Diana) and Brenda Crowe (Ron), one brother, Robert Barrow (Dorcas). She has nine grandchildren, Tamara Speelmon (Lance), Steve Swafford (Christine), Melanie Fitzgerald (John), Kara Fowler, Stephanie Erceg (Mark), Susan Floyd (Jay), Shane Crowe, Tiffany Crowe, and Derek Crowe (Shannon); 16 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Virgil Swafford, second husband, Harold Jonas, three sisters, Dolly Stancomb, Lucille Robertson, and Doris Staley, six brothers, James, Herschel, William, Erwin, Vernal, Paul, and son-in-law, Donald Fowler and two great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 10:30am-1:00pm Monday, July 25, 2016 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. in Bloomington.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Monday with Pastor Les Rovenstine officiating. Burial will follow at Unionville Cemetery.
