"Old Catholic Cemetery Is Recalled - The Herald received information from various sources yesterday about the abandoned Roman Catholic cemetery south of town. Mrs John J Harvey of 314 W Main Street had the most to offer. The name was Calvary Cemetery, Mrs Harvey said. It had no caretaker. Families with relatives buried there had to take care of their own lots. Mrs Harvey's maiden name was Seep and it was the custom in that family to load the carriage on a nice Sunday with children, a lawnmower, a trowel and everything else needed for attending the lot. Mrs Harvey said she can recall the trip as a real outing. The cemetery was abandoned in 1900 when St Catharine's cemetery opened on the Hydetown Road. Many bodies were removed from Calvary to St Catharine's. Some had been buried so long that the movers found no casket or corpse, just bones. Many families decided against moving their loved ones because it might bring bad luck, Mrs Harvey recalled. Hunters and boys have left the cemetery a wreck."

Mrs Harvey was the last of the 11 children of Joseph and Catharine Hillenmeyer Seep of Titusville. Mr Seep, an early pioneer in the oil industry, was president of the South Penn Oil Co (Pennzoil) and established the Joseph Seep Purchasing Agency, under which the Standard Oil Co, founded by John D Rockefeller, Sr, stabilized prices for crude oil in the entire Pennsylvania field during its chaotic years. She married John J Harvey in the chapel of St Joseph Convent in Titusville Oct 15, 1913. Mr Harvey, an oil producer, died July 5, 1938. Mrs Harvey was a member of St Titus Church and a life-long benefactor of the Sisters of Mercy. She was president and an (sic) trustee of St Catharine's Cemetery, which was founded and endowed by her father and mother as a gift to St Titus Parish. She is survived by four sons, John Harvey at home, James Harvey of Titusville, Joseph Harvey of Oil City and Paul Havey of Honolulu, Hawaii. A daughter, Mary, died in 1915 in infancy.
