"Joab Powell, the Baptist Circuit Rider, was born 16 July 1799 in Claiborne County, Tennessee. He was the son of Joseph Powell and Hanna Jewson. They were of Welsh ancestry, and they were Quakers, though Joseph fought in the American Revolution. Joab converted to the Baptist religion and rode circuit in Missouri and later in Oregon. He married Anna Beeler in 1817, in Claiborne County and they had 14 children, the first five born in Tenn.and the others in Jackson County, Missouri.The family followed the Oregon Trail in 1852 with John and Jane (Powell) Beeler and settled in Linn County where Joab continued his preaching of the gospel.
Joab Powell and Jane (Powell) Beeler were siblings. Their spouses,
John Beeler and Anna (Beeler) Powell were also brother and sister.
