Paul Hanson Beckstrom, 83, of Spanish Fork, graduated this life Summa Cum Laude on Thursday, October 27, 2011, at the Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, Utah, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Spanish Fork on November 30, 1927, of goodly parents William C. and Nena Hanson Beckstrom.

He married Mary Ellen Chapple on January 20, 1946, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. To this union were born seven children (three sets of twins).

He is survived by twins, Jan B. Spagnolo and Jeffrey (Camille) Beckstrom; daughter-in-law, Irene (Bob) Beckstrom Moore; ten grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Mark (Anita) Beckstrom, and four sisters-in-law: Ruth (Ted) Beckstrom, Merle (Ken) Curtis, Janet (Kirk) Jameson, and Theda (Joe) Chapple. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife "El"; their son, Gary Paul Beckstrom; twins Pauline and Paulette Beckstrom, twins Mary and Terry Beckstrom, and three brothers. He was also very fond of his older siblings from his dad's first wife, Eliza.

He learned the value of hard work at an early age, growing up during the depression. He carried this work ethic with him throughout his life.

In preparation for his career as an educator and administrator, Paul attended schools in Spanish Fork and later BYU and earned his Bachelor, Master and Doctorate (Ed D.) degrees.

He was employed by the Nebo School District as principal in Benjamin, Lake Shore, Springville, Payson and Spanish Fork. He always made the effort to learn the name of every child in each school.

Paul was born in and lived in Spanish Fork First Ward most of his life. He, like his father, served in a variety of positions including Bishop of that ward. More recently, he enjoyed serving in the Provo Temple.

Paul also enjoyed his association with the Spanish Fork Seniors and spent many hours gathering and sharing local history information about the places and people he knew and loved throughout his life. His memory was phenomenal for the endearing details that brought history to life.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Spanish Fork First Ward Chapel, 310 East Center Street, Spanish Fork, Utah. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday morning from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. prior to the services.
Interment at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
