TEXAS CITY - Charles William Blair Jr. 81, of Texas City passed away Friday, October 12,2001, at his residence in Texas City. He was born September 5,1920, in San Antonio, Texas to Charles and Anna Kunkler Blair and had resided in Texas City since 1951, formerly of Galveston. Mr. Blair graduated from Ball High School in 1938, and was employed by Tbdd Shipyards when WWII broke out, entered service with USAAF on March 28, 1942, and was selected for pilot training and commissioned 2nd Lt., flew two tours in Europe as a fighter pilot with the 355, Fighter Group, 358 Fighter Squadron, flying the P-47 Thunderbolt and the P-51 Mustang.

He met his wife Louise Madison in Richmond, VA in 1943. During the war he rose to the rank of Major, was credited with 4 confirmed kills, 1 damaged and a probable. His awards include the Distinguished Flying Cross with two'clusters, the Air Medal with eight clusters and the Presidential citation. In 1946, he used the GI bill to go to college and was in the first Pharmacy Class at the University of Houston. He graduated from the University in 1950, and worked in Galveston as a pharmacist from 1950-1987, and retired in 1987. Mr. Blair was a member of St. John's Methodist Church in Texas City.

Survivors include his wife Louise Madison Blair of Texas City, sister Mary Lou Rygaard of La Marque and her husband Pete; son Charles W. Blair III of San Antonio and
his wife Linda; daughter Verna Ann Leonhardt of Texas City and her husband Gene; daughter Kathy Nelson of La Marque and husband Kenny; daughter Judy Loney of Texas City and her husband Chuck, grandson Sean Leonhardt of Houston; grandson Brian Loney and granddaughter
Ashley Loney of Texas City.

A visitation will be from 5:00-7:00p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2001, at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2001 with Rev. Bob Wedergren
officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Park East, Webster, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Pete Rygaard, Dennis Rygaard, Ricky Rygaard, Sean Leonhardt, Brian Loney and Ashley Loney.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Care Team, 1708 Amburn Rd., Texas City, Texas. 77591.
