Ruth was born in Ames, Iowa, November 7, 1921, to L.B. and Amy Benjamin Shallenberger.
She grew up in Chicago and graduated from Chicago Teachers College in 1941. She taught school in Sturgis, Michigan, Hinsdale and Dundee, Illinois.
On July 10, 1948, Ruth married Dick McCornack at the Thorndike Hilton Chapel, at the University of Chicago.
In 1958, the family moved to Lexington when Dick took a position as an engineer with IBM. Ruth was one of the founding members of the UK Hospital Auxiliary, board member of the YWCA, member of Lexington Woman's Club and was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. She was a librarian at the Lansdowne branch of the Lexington Public Library, retiring in 1991.
She is survived by her son and his wife, Bill and Nicole McCornack, Versailles, her daughter and her husband, Lois and John Noval, Hartwell, Georgia and two granddaughters, Kathryn Clemmons, Bluffton, South Carolina and Ashley Bengtsson, Santa Clara, California, and a great grandson, Tucker Bengtsson. She is also survived by one brother, Robert Shallenberger, River Forest, Illinois.
