Lester Hochstetler, 67, of Herman, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at the V.A. Nursing Home Care Unit in Grand Island.
Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 5, at the Cairo United Methodist Church. The Revs. David Mastin and George Wheat officiated. Interment was in the Mennonite Church Cemetery, north of Wood River.

Lester Hochstetler was born May 23, 1934, in Wood River to Ezra and Sadie (Roth) Hochstetler. He was baptized into the Mennonite Church and was a member of the Mennonite Faith.
He entered the Army in 1954, serving for nine years in Korea, Germany and various other sites. He was honorably discharged in 1963 and moved back to Grand Island.
He married Caroline Stalnaker Christensen on Sept. 23, 1967, in Grand Island. The couple moved to Fort Calhoun.
He married Tina Wiese in 1984, and the couple lived in Herman.
Mr. Hochstetler enjoyed fishing, camping, and restoring old cars.

Survivors include three stepdaughters and step-sons-in-law, Cindy and Bruce Webster, Christine and Mark Webster, and Charlotte Koneck, all of Blair; two brothers, Donald of Dannebrog and Roy of Cairo, and one sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Leo Kroll of Cairo.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline, a brother, Maynard, and a sister, Mary Asher.

Memorials are suggested to the family.
Apfel Funeral Home in Cairo was in charge of arrangements.
