The choir of Heaven will now be complete with the voice of this amazing lady. April 13, 2013 Ruth Maxine (Oakley) Shelton 81, stepped into the lead soloist position of Heaven's choir. She joined her husband, Harold Wayne Shelton Sr. who can be heard shouting through the hills of glory because his wife and best friend, which he knew for over 65 years, has arrived home. She loved to tell the story of how he stole her shoes and wouldn't return them until she agreed to date and they were together until his passing in 2011. She devoted her life to being the best wife and mom possible. In 1969 they gave their hearts and lives to God serving him faithfully. She was a member of Bethel Lane Holiness Church.

She spent the majority of her life doing what she loved most, singing. She was a member of a couple local gospel groups as well as enjoying going to all the local churches as a soloist spreading God's message. When she wasn't singing, she enjoyed quilting, baking, mushroom hunting, dragging each and every one of her children and grandchildren mushroom hunting, as well as just spending time with them.

Her Son's, Ed (Vick) Shelton and Rick (Kim) Shelton of Bloomington and her daughter, Jody (Sam) Figg of Ellettsville will forever be grateful to her for providing an example of the kind of parent they should strive to be. She was there for us until she no longer could be.

She was preceded in death by one son, Harold Wayne Shelton Jr.

She will be greatly missed by 8 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren.

Maxine was the daughter of James and Mettie Oakley.

Her Brothers, Frank, David and Phillip as well as her sisters Katherine Jordan, Beulah Johnson and Alice Savia have preceded her in death.

Visitation with the family will be at Day Funeral Home on Tuesday 10 am- 11 am, Service is at 11 AM. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
