Born on Dec. 21, 1909, in Flat Rock, s/o Harvey and Minerva (Brown) Orem.
On Feb. 11, 1933, married Joanna (Pierce) Orem, and she survives.
Lived in Pine Island, Fla., for six months a year for the last 25 years.
Teacher. Started his career in Rushville, then moved to Shelbyville and became principal of the former Colescott Elementary School.
Taught at Shelbyville Junior High and Shelbyville Senior High schools, retiring as principal at Hendricks
Elementary School in the early 1970s.
Member of the Fishers of Men Lutheran Church in St. James City, Fla., and belonged to the Shelbyville Masonic Lodge No. 28, F&AM.
Former secretary of the Shelbyville Lions Club, a member of the American Amateur Radio League and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, and a former member of the Indiana State Teachers Association, the National Education Association and the Indiana Elementary Principals Association.
Survivors also include a son, Jamie Orem, Shelbyville; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by three sisters.
Carmony-Ewing Broadway Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with the Rev. Gary Huffman officiating. Masonic services.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
