Jacquelyn "Jackie" M. Wippel, 74, of Ellensburg died March 31, 2003 at Providence Medical Center in Yakima. She was born in Grandview on December 19, 1928, one of three children of John and Linda A. (Cochran) Payne.

Following graduation from Grandview High School in 1946, she came to Ellensburg to attend Central Washington State College of Education, now Central Washington University. She and James F. Wippel were married in 1947 and raised their seven children at the present family home located at 703 N. Water St.

She worked for 18 years as a cook at the Hi-Way Grille on Eighth Avenue. Upon its closing she was employed at CWU as a cook at Holmes Dining Hall until her retirement a number of years ago.

Jackie was a woman of few words but when she spoke, people listened. She never spoke harshly of anyone or anything. Jackie was known as a hard worker, mother, grandmother, and friend with a heart of steel. Jackie always faced adversity head-on and was a kind and giving person who will be dearly missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; sons, John F., Harrell G. "Hal" and Kenneth J. "Kenny" Wippel; brothers, Frank and Kenneth Payne.

She is survived by her children: Tony (Mary) Wippel, Cathy Bonjorni, Joy (Paul) Chrismer and Carol (Garry) Ohlde, all of Ellensburg; grandchildren: Heidi, Noel, Toni (Matt), John, Nichol (Rob), Jennifer (Jason), Missy (Travis), Katie, Lori, Jessi and J. J.; great grandchildren: McKenzie, Logan, Courtney, Bailey, Brook, Blake, Andrew, and Nathan.

Services are at 11 a.m., April 4 at the graveside at Holy Cross Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow immediately at the Elks Temple. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Friends, 302 E. Second Avenue, Ellensburg. Arrangements by Affordable Funeral Care.
