Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bismarck Funeral Home. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.
Caroline was born Nov. 16, 1910, the daughter of Henry and Caroline (Martzolf) Schaeffer in Newdorf, Russia. She came to the United States with her parents in 1911. They first made their home in Grand Forks, and later moved to Mercer, where Caroline grew up. She married Jacob Hochhalter on Nov. 20, 1928, at Turtle Lake, by the Rev. Emanual Broeckle. They made their home in Regan until 1964, when Mr. Hochhalter was stricken with a bad stroke. Mr. Hochhalter died Feb. 5, 1975.
Caroline worked as a dietary aide at both Bismarck hospitals. She enjoyed cooking and canning.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Art and Violet Hochhalter, Gillette, Wyo., and Wilmer and Viola Hochhalter, Bismarck; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Carl Buckmiller, Mandan, and Joyce and Milt Hein, Bismarck; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ida Loftin, Placerville, Calif., Ann and Don Holden, Wahatche, Calif., and Leona and Bob Palot, Decatur, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jacob; an infant daughter, Adeline; an infant son, Roger; seven brothers; and two sisters.
