Wilmer E. Hochhalter, 71, Bismarck, died Dec. 25, 2004, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Bismarck Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Burnett officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, at Bismarck Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Wilmer was born March 1, 1933, in Bismarck to Jacob and Caroline (Schaeffer) Hochhalter. He was raised and educated in rural schools near Regan. Wilmer was an U.S. Army veteran. He married Viola Gehring of Regan Oct. 23, 1954, in Bismarck. He farmed his entire life in the Regan area and purchased his own farm north of Regan in 1966. Wilmer retired from farming in 1992, and then moved to Bismarck in 1997.

He enjoyed farming, raising horses and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Wilmer and Viola enjoyed traveling and spent two winters in Mesa, Ariz., until health reasons wouldn't allow.

Wilmer is survived by Viola, his wife of 50 years; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melva and Mark Morris, Bismarck, and LaVonne and Darian Stratmeyer, Rapid City, S.D.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dallus and Sandra Hochhalter and Larry and Vonda Hochhalter, all of Bismarck, and Delton and Mavis Hochhalter, Regan; 11 loving grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Carl Buckmiller, Mandan and Joyce and Milton Hein, Bismarck; one sister-in-law, Violet Hochhalter, Gillette, Wyo.; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Wilmer in death were his parents; an infant brother, Roger; an infant sister, Adeline; and his brother, Arthur Hochhalter.
