Sharon McFarland, 71, of Arkansas City, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, at her home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at the funeral home.

Jackie Vogele will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Sharon was born May 25, 1943, to Charles Andrew and Verda Belle (Baker) Anstey in Arkansas City.

She attended Arkansas City schools, graduating from the high school in 1961.

Sharon married Phillip K. McFarland on March 29, 1965, in Newkirk, and the couple made their home in the Arkansas City area.

Sharon was a homemaker and helped to manage the family farm.

She also was a licensed cosmetologist, and owned and operated a salon in downtown Arkansas City for several years.

Sharon was a member of the Martha Washington Unit, Winfield Saddle Club, Kansas Wheathearts Chapter of the National Society of Decorative Painters, Cowley County Cowbelles, P.E.O. Sisterhood and First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Marla McFarland and Pat Wilson, and Cindi Rowe, and husband, Randy, all of Arkansas City, and Christine Covinsky, and husband, Bryan, of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; sister, Shirley Hodges, of Oxford; and grandchildren, Elizabeth Potter, Holli Rowe, Mitchell Phillip Rowe, Savannah Rowe, Gunnar Covinsky and Aidan Covinsky.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Clarence, Donald, Charles and Dale Anstey; and sister, Thelma Jameson.

A memorial has been established for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City.
