Wilson McTeer was a member of the Psychology Department at Wayne State University for 40 years and was, for much of that time, acting chairman and associate chairman of the department. McTeer was born in Marysville, Tennessee on July 25, 1905. He obtained his B.A. at Marysville College in 1925 and served as an instructor of psychology at the College from 1925-1927. His graduate work was done at the University of Chicago where he was a fellow in 1928 and where he obtained his Ph.D. in psychology in 1930. Wilson McTeer joined the staff of the College of the City of Detroit in the same year.
At the now Wayne State University he served as an instructor of psychology from 1930-1936, as assistant professor in psychology from 1936-1943, as professor of psychology from 1943-1952, and as associate professor of psychology from 1952 until his retirement in 1971. McTeer served as acting chairman from 1947-1952, 1954-1957, and 1958-1965. He was the associate chairman of the department from 1966-1971.
