W.W. Wilson, 62, Dies After Having Stroke
Rock Island Engineer For Past 36 Year
W.W. Wilson, 62, died this morning following a stroke suffered late Saturday evening at his home.

Walter William Wilson was born Dec. 16, 1882, in Grundy county, Verona township, near Morris, Ill., and spent his early childhood on a farm. He was the son of Edward F. Wilson and Lucy Tilden Wilson, and was one of five children. The family moved to Estherville in 1892 and the father engaged in the clothing business while living in Estherville.

Lived in Tennessee
The family moved to Maryville, Tenn., during the year 1898 and Mr. Wilson attended the Maryville academy. As a young man he returned to Estherville and in 1908 he began to work with the Rock Island railroad. After three years of railroad work he became an engineer and has had that position for the past 36 years.

He was married Jan. 6, 1909, in Estherville to Clare [Mary Clare] Fuller at the Charles Fuller home. The Rev. Edward Campbell officiated at the wedding.

Elder in Church
Mr. Wilson united with the Presbyterian church Jan. 5, 1913, and was ordained an elder of the Presbyterian church May 1, 1938.

He is a member of the Masonic lodge and also of the Eastern Star lodge.

Survivors include his widow, a son, Edward E. Wilson, and three grandchildren, two brothers, Maurice Wilson of Atlanta, Ga., and Wilson McTeer of Detroit, Mich., and also a sister, Nellie Smith, of Maryville, Tenn.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed but services will be held in the Presbyterian church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 20, 1944)

Three Well Known Men Called
W.W. Wilson, John Brinkman and G.L. Gorton Pass to Reward, All Prominent In County
Estherville and community was shocked Monday [March 20, 1944] when it became known that Walter W. Wilson rock Island engineer, had died that morning after a short illness. Mr. Wilson had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage Saturday evening from which he failed to recover. The seriousness of his condition was not generally know.

Mr. Wilson was born Dec. 16, 1882 on a farm in Verona township, Grundy county, Illinois, one of five children of Edward T. and Lucy Tilden Wilson, and came to Estherville with his parents in 1892. His father had a clothing store here and Walter attended the local schools and after the family moved to Maryville, Tenn., in 1898 he continued his schooling at the Maryville academy. He returned to Estherville, however, and in 1908 began work as fireman for the Rock Island. He was elevated to engineer three years later and has continued in that capacity since that time.

On Jan. 6, 1909, he was married to Miss Clare Fuller at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Fuller. Their marriage has been a happy one, their home life all absorbing to them. They have one son, Edward recently of Pipestone, Minn., but now waiting his induction call. There are three grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Maurice Wilson of Atlanta, Ga., Wilson McTeer of Detroit, Mich., and a sister, Mrs. Nellie Smith of Maryville, Tenn.

Mr. Wilson was a member of North Star Lodge No. 447 A.F. and A.M. and of North Star Chapter No. 200 Order Eastern Star. He has been a member of the Presbyterian church since 1913 and an elder since 1938.

Funeral services were held this (Thursday) afternoon at two o'clock from the Presbyterian church with Rev. Jos. Kennedy in charge. Prayer services were held at the home at 1:30. Masons and members of the Eastern Star attended in a body. Burial will be made in Oak Hill cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, March 23, 1944)
