STERLING – Margaret Ida Oden, 93, died May 1, 2014, at Bridgehaven Care Cottage, Lawrence. She was born Aug. 5, 1920, in Bristol, Colo., the daughter of Benjamin and Beda Ida Bogue White.
A longtime Sterling resident, she was a homemaker, wife, mother and she attended Sterling College. Her memberships included: United Methodist Church, WSCS, former church Choir member, Get Together Club and M.B. Club, all of Sterling and she was a former Sweet Adelines member. On July 4, 1941, she married W. J. Oden in Garden City. He passed away Nov. 4, 1977. Survivors include: son, Jim and Tamie Oden of Houston, Texas; daughter, Barbara and Frank Lovitch of Basehor, Kan.; sister, Betty Watters of Washington; six grandchildren, Kendra, Heather, Leslie, Aaron, Matt and Zach; seven great-grandchildren, Rylan, Caden, Erin, Kenna, Landon, Sloane and George. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Ellen Cobb; sister, Jody Newby; three brothers, Briggs White, Fagan White, Ward White.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, at United Methodist Church, Sterling, with Reverend Marvin Ewertt officiating. Burial will be in the Sterling Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling. Memorials may be made to the Veteran Memorial at Sterling Lake, in care of the funeral home.
