Howard E. Wheeler, age 86, of Wayne, Ohio went to meet the Lord peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was born in Maumee, Ohio on May 29, 1927, to Lafe and Violet (Ackerman) Wheeler. Howard married Sue Hausman on December 30, 1951 in Auburn, IN.

Howard left home at the age of 17, to join the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served part of his duty in the Philippines. After release from the Navy, he worked as an electrician and later as a millwright. He moved his family to Oroville, California in the 1960s, and worked on the construction of the Oroville Dam. Howard was an active member of the Millwright Pile Driver Local 1090 for 35 years, retiring in 1987. He belonged to VFW Post 4984, and the American Legion Post 232, both of Grand Rapids, Ohio. Howard was also a member of Victory Chapel, Cygnet, Ohio.

Howard is survived by son, Howard "Butch" (Lori) E. Wheeler Jr., of Grand Rapids; daughters, Violet (John) Serrato of Wayne, Ohio, and Kathy (Tom) Potter of Weston, Ohio; his stepsons, Melvin "Jake" (Judy) Jacobs of San Marcos, California, and Spencer Jacobs of Trenton, Florida; his grandchildren, John (Rachel) Serrato Jr., of Tontogany, Ohio, Holly (Kris) Serrato, of Waterville, Ohio, Howard "Howie" Wheeler III of Wayne, Ohio, Michael Serrato of Wayne, Ohio, Troy Potter, of Weston, Malissa Potter of Columbus, Ohio and Jeff Jacobs of Toledo; 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Stan (Reva) Wheeler of Oroville, California, and sister, Barbara Thomas of Defiance, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Sue Wheeler and grandson, Ronald Gene Jacobs Jr.; his parents, Lafe and Violet (Baker) Wheeler and his brother, Hershel Wheeler.

Friends and family are invited to call on Howard's family at the Peinert Dunn Funeral Home, 7220 Dutch Rd., Waterville, Ohio on Sunday, April 13, 2014, from 1-5 p.m. The funeral service will be at the funeral home on Monday, at 11 a.m. with Evangelist Jim Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Howard's memory to the Flaming Fire Ministries or the Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
