Johanna Karolina Zahn married Carl Friedrich Beyersdorf in Pomerania, Prussia. They had one child, Augusta, before immigrating to America in 1857. Once in Wisconsin, she became a farm wife in Maple Grove Township, near Reedsville in Manitocwoc County. She was known as Caroline, and her husband as Fred. They went on to have eight more children -
Wilhelmine, Wilhelm (William), August Friedrich, Emilia Bertha, Johann Carl, Eduard Ferdinand, Julius Franz, and Albert Richard.

She died in 1887, when her youngest child was just 13 years old.
