Gwenevere Hymas Reed, 84, of Ririe, Idaho died Wednesday, October 19, 2005 in Idaho Falls. She was born March 29, 1921 near Rigby, Idaho to Wilford Watkins Hymas and Ethel May Call Hymas. From a very early age she displayed an amazing gift in music which she continued to develop and which she freely shared all of her life. She responded to every request for her music at school, in church and in the community. Growing up on a farm she learned to help on the farm and would sing with her sisters as they worked. She attended school in Rigby and in high school was named the salutatorian of her graduation class. From the time she graduated from high school she played the piano in large dance bands. She earned a one year scholarship in music to the University of Idaho in Pocatello. While there she became acquainted with J. Clare Reed of Ririe. Two years later a romance developed between them and they were married two weeks before he was sent overseas to the South Pacific on May 8, 1943. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple on December 11, 1944. During the 2 ½ years he was gone she taught music at Ririe High School. After the war they moved several times with his career in the Department of Agriculture. They lived in Snyder and Rotan, Texas, Great Falls, Montana, American Fall, Idaho, Wenatchee, Washington, Rexburg, Idaho, and for 16 years in Bismarck, North Dakota. In all of these locations she made many friends with her music and friendly smile and she would regularly invite guests over for dinner. While in Bismarck she organized and conducted a 400 youth mission choir from all the branches of the church in Wyoming, Montana, North and South Dakota and 2 Canadian provinces. When they retired and moved back to Idaho she was stake music director and at one time organized and conducted a regional choir at Ricks College. She served with her husband on a mission to the Hopi Indian Reservation in Arizona. She also served with her husband as a Temple Officiator in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple for 19 years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in many callings in the Primary, Young Women's, Relief Society and Sunday School. She was also a member of the Daughter of the Utah Pioneers. She enjoyed gardening, traveling with her husband and especially being with her children and grandchildren. Her good life has touched so many and she will be greatly missed by all. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, James Clare Reed of Ririe; sons, Steven (DeLillian) Reed, T. Jack (Sandy) Reed and Ronald (Gayle) Reed of Ririe; daughters, Sharon (Harold) Jones of Aurora, Colorado, and Evelyn (Bruce) Bryner of Idaho Falls; 25 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ora Green of Rexburg, Idaho and LueCille Isham of Pocatello, Idaho and brother, Stanford Hymas of Rigby, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Leonard and a sister, Marion. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 22, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. in the Ririe 2nd Ward Chapel with Bishop Steve Hickman officiating. The family will meet with friends on Thursday, October 21, 2005 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel (101 West Main, Rigby, Idaho) from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and on Saturday, October 22, 2005 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Ririe 2nd Ward Chapel.
