Funeral service for Gideon Goehring, 94, of Ashley will be 10:30 am, Monday, October 7, 2013 at Ashley Baptist Church. The Rev. Chris McLaughlin will officiate.

Burial in Ashley City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 7-8:30 pm with a prayer service at 7:30 pm at the funeral home.

Gideon died Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Ashley Nursing Home.

Gideon Goehring, son of Christian J. and Magdelena (Schauer) Goehring was born December 22, 1918 near Long Lake in McPherson County, SD. He completed his education in a country school in Bergdorf District.

He was united in marriage to Ida Bertsch on October 27, 1946 at Bertsch Station Baptist Church. They developed a farm about a half mile east of the home place, raising livestock and small grains and farming with Gideon's brother, Albert. They were active members, including Gideon as pianist, in the German Baptist Church of Jewell, until it closed in 1958. They then began attending Ashley Baptist Church. Ida died November 3, 1961.

Gideon then married Edna Grueneich on December 28, 1962 in Underwood Baptist Church at Underwood, ND. Gideon's son, Jim joined him full-time in farming in 1977. In May of 2010, Gideon suffered an injury and then moved into the Ashley Nursing Home.

Gideon loved to play the piano and was blessed with the ability to play by ear. He would entertain guests in his home whenever he could. Gideon was a member of Ashley Baptist Church, singing in the mixed choir, men's chorus, men's quartet as well as being an accompanist. He was a member of the Board of Trustees and Men's Brotherhood.

Gideon is survived by his wife, Edna; one son, James (Joy) Goehring; one daughter, Geraldine (Larry) Weisser; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

His parents, first wife, Ida, one brother, Albert and three sisters, Emma Heupel, Ida Bertsch and Esther Hartman preceded him in death.
