Was born in Westphalia, Germany.
In 1883, at the age of 11 years, AUGUST came with his parents to America. His youth was spent on a farm near Burlington, Iowa.
In 1903, he married KATHARINA MEHMKEN in Iowa. In the spring of 1904, AUGUST and KATHARINA moved to Jefferson County, Nebraska, where they bought a farm (N.W. quarter, Section 4) from Bill Haake, Sr. The farm was located 3 miles north-northwest of Daykin.
In 1918, they tore down the house that was on the farm and built the house that is presently standing there. After KATHARINA died in 1944, AUGUST continued living on the farm until his death in 1958.

August H. Kleine of Daykin, Nebraska, died 26 Ap 1958 at the age of 86 years, 3 months, and 25 days. He was born 1 Jan 1872, in Westphalia, Germany, where he was baptized in the church. When 11 years of age, he came with his parents to the U.S. He spent his youth on a farm near Burlington, Iowa where he was confirmed April 3, 1887 in Zion Lutheran Church near Burlington. On 15 Apr 1903, he married Katharine MEHMKEN. He is survived by his son, John, six grandchildren, one great grandchild, and two brothers, Henry of Daykin, and Fred of Pulaski, Iowa. Burial was in the St. John Lutheran Church cemetery near Daykin.
Funeral services were Monday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church. Pastor E. F. Prange officiated. Pallbearers were Everett Bartels, Paul Endorf, Walter Endorf, Melvin Kleine, LaVern Schweer, Ralph Stothman.
