As per an affidavit dated the 25th of September 1972 Herbert legally changed his name to Stanley.

Stanley "Herb" Bender, 79, of Lodi, died Saturday at his home after a long illness.
A native of Lockeford, he worked 30 years at Lodi Super Mold before retiring. He is survived by his wife, Lillie May Bender of Lodi; a daughter Patty Pfeifer of Lodi; a son Jeff Bender of Lodi; five brothers, Harold Bender of Lodi, Howard Bender of Lodi, James Bender of Sacramento, Willard Bender of Sacramento and Ray Bender of Lodi; and six grand-daughters.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Lodi Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Scott Harrison of the Church of Christ will officiate. Committal will be at Lodi Memorial Cemetery. Rocha's Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
