Edmond Zenore Whitfield is the birth name of my Great Uncle Eddy, only son of Cebren William Whitfield and his wife Martha Jane Franklin of Chins Spring (Erath Community), Texas. His middle name, Zenore, is in the Family Bible and I know this to be correct and factual. He Is the only brother of my Grandmother Zola Whitfield Yankie whom I grew up adoring and spending much time with on the Whitfield place which my father Boots Yankie purchased from all the heirs after the death of our Great Grandmother, Martha Jane Whitfield. His Mother, Zola V Whitfield, of course, remained in her home on the family place the rest of her life after her husband, Grover Leo Yankie, died of pneumonia at a very young age. She and her three boys were beyond devastated.

His name, Edmond Zenore Whitfield is in the Family Bible, on all his photos and Grandmother and my father told me the story many times. I have his letters, his WWI helmet and very handsome photos of him along with many other documents, military medals and remembrances. He entered the United States Army during WWI, and the powers that be in the Army apparently did not like the name Zenore or thought it too unusual or difficult Therefore, they asked his father's name which is Cebren William Whitfield, and assigned him with his father's middle name. Apparently Cebren didn't suit either! Uncle Eddy continued to use the "W" for William as he might not have liked the name Zenore any more than the Army did,, or perhaps most of his paperwork coming out of the war used the name Edmond W. Whitfield. Whatever the circumstances, my great uncle's correct birth name is indeed Edmond Zenore Whitfield as named by his parents and shall remain so. However, many documents and in many places his name is found as Edmond W. Whitfield or simply E. W. Whitfield as on his gravestone.

Uncle Eddy began an automobile business on Franklin Avenue in Waco, Texas, which evolved into Frank Weaver Pontiac, Frank being his grandson. This Pontiac Dealership was a longtime and well known business in Waco on North Valley Mills Drive.

Uncle Eddy was headed to deliver a car to someone in Temple and was killed instantly on the highway in a car accident near Bruceville-Eddy, Texas. He was born December 11, 1895 in Robinson, Texas, which was called "Robinsonville" at that time.

Edmond served on the front lines in World War I.

He is the first husband of Anna Belle Wheeler and father of their only child, Marjorie Ann Whitfield. Anna Belle had no children with her second husband.

(Information provided by his great niece, Nancy Yankie, daughter of Boots and Opal Anderson Yankie and Grand Niece of Edmond Whitfield.)
