Larry Lynn "Jughead" Jennings, 70, of Clifton, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at his daughter's home in Clifton. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Monday, June 10, at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery in West. Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 9, at Lake Shore Funeral Home, Waco.

Larry was born in Jack County, Texas, to the late Charles Melvin and Lyda Bell Curd Jennings, the youngest of 10 children. Larry's adult life was spent with his wife, Jeannette, whom he married on December 20, 1963. Throughout their years together they formed a partnership that seemed to work for them. Before meeting Jeannette, Larry followed in his dad's footsteps at the age of 15 and began a truck driving career that lasted more than 26 years. His CB handle of "Jughead" was given to him by his kids and is a name that has stuck to this day. During his driving years, Larry covered territory over most of the United States, hauling everything from bell-bottom blue jeans to fresh produce and powdered limestone. Years later, he even hauled a load of snow in the back of his pickup from Nebraska to Texas so his grandkids could experience their first white Christmas. Jeannette joined him as his driving partner for a brief time in the early 80s.

After trucking, Larry tried his hand at an excavating business, clearing land and building new roads, stock tanks, and pads for new construction. In 1988, he found a new career in the fiber optics business which lasted for 14 years. Jeannette and their beloved Boston Terrier, Lady, joined him in a travel trailer as they followed the job along the Midwest and West Coast. He worked his way up in the industry from truck driver to railroad coordinator. Larry's final career move with Jeannette was owning and operating the Mini Stop convenience store on Lake Mexia for several years before finally retiring in 2008.

When his wife became sick in 2009 with the same disease that also claimed his life, Larry became a faithful and dedicated caregiver, and pampered her like she had never been pampered before. After her death in 2010, Larry moved to Richland Chambers Lake where the avid fisherman enjoyed countless hours of fishing, shooting the bull with friends (and foes), telling numerous stories, and letting his opinion be known.

Larry was a naturally funny man with a quick wit who could keep people laughing with his never-ending stories of the many experiences he had had over the years. He was outspoken, opinionated, picky about everything, especially his food, and he didn't mind telling anyone how he felt. He had a rough exterior, but always had a soft heart for the down-and-out. He was also a true, loyal friend who would often times neglect his own needs to help out a buddy. Larry will be missed, but his tales will live on. Rest in peace, Jughead.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette Austin Jennings; brothers, J. C. Jennings, J. B. Jennings, Robert Jennings, and Jack Jennings; sisters, Bobbie Middleton and Billie Peavy.

He is survived by his son, Larry Wade Jennings, of Waco; daughter, Vicky Erickson and her husband, Alex Azua, of Clifton; grandchildren, Dylan Jennings, of Mexia, and Chelsea and Kevin Erickson, of Clifton; sisters, Nina Parks, of Corsicana, and Charlsie Lassetter, of Waco; and many, many nieces, nephews, and great friends.
