Services Thursday For Gerd Tjaden

ONSLOW — Funeral services for Gerd Tjaden, 93, who died Thursday at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 in the Wayne Zion Lutheran church with burial in the Wayne cemetery. Mr. Tjaden had been residing in the Kleineck nursing home.

Gerhard Tjaden, 93, Dies Feb. 10

Funeral Services Held At Wayne Zion Church

Gerhard Henry Tjaden, 93, long-time Jones county resident died at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, following a short illness.

Funeral service was conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Wayne Zion Lutheran church with Rev. H. F. Kehren officiating.

Burial was in Wayne cemetery. Casket bearers were Fred Stoffers, Alvin Stoffers, Rudolph Tjaden, Lynn Tjaden, LaVerne Tjaden and Earl Heeren.

Born Jan. 10, 1862 in Germany, the son of Herman and Maria Tjaden, he came to the United States in 1906. He farmed in Jones county for many years retiring when he was 62 years old.

Surviving are six children: Herman, Amber; Carl, Maquoketa; Ed, Onslow; Henry, Martelle; Mrs. Marie Stoffers and Mrs. Emil Heeren, Anamosa; two step-children, Mrs. John Balster, Clinton, and Henry Oltmann, Chicago.

He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.

Mr. Tjaden's first wife died in 1904 and the second in 1936. Three children also preceded him in death.
