Ex-Mayor Faurot Dies In Florida

Former Lima mayor, city commissioner and professional baseball player, Lee C. Faurot, died Monday evening in Orlando, Fla., where he was spending the winter.

Mr. Faurot, 87, was also an insurance broker who lived at 320 Garfield when in Lima.

A nephew of Ben Faurot, the man who donated Faurot Park and built the Faurot Opera House, Mr. Faurot was elected Mayor of Lima in 1932 for a two-year term after serving as a city commissioner.

He had pitched baseball with Pueblo and Denver, Colo. teams. His interest in sports carried over to his business years in Lima when he promoted the first professional basketball game here.

Mr. Faurot was born Oct. 8, 1876, in Lima, and was a 1894 graduate of Lima High School. Following high school, he pursued his professional baseball career, then returned to Lima where he started a dance school.

Following this, Mr. Faurot entered the insurance business.

He was a member of the Lima Kiwanis Club, Lima Elks, a 50-year member of the Garrett Wykoff Lodge No. 585 and attended Trinity Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Cornelia, three sons, Alvin B. of Palm Dale, Calif., Donald of St. Marys and Leonard C. of 324 S. Cole and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Chiles and Sons - Laman Funeral Home.
