Charles L Bowers, a native of Ohio, was a resident of Henry County, Iowa, when he enlisted and mustered in Co K 4th Iowa Cavalry on Feb. 13, 1864, at the age of 30 years. He mustered out Aug. 8, 1865, at Atlanta, Georgia.

Bowers filed for his pension in Illinois on May 22, 1890. App #1,024,996 and Cert #974,961. His wife, Mary E, applied for her widow's pension in Illinois on Apr 27, 1908. App #890,798 and Cert #654,062.

Charles's brother, William Harrison Bowers, also served with Co K 4th Iowa Cavalry. He died during the war in 1864 and is buried in Tennessee (24318208).
