Walter W. Koenig of El Campo died July 25, 2008 at the age of 89. He was born on April 17, 1919, in La Grange, to the late John and Mary Klavermann Koenig. He was a home delivery milkman for 25 years. He was an Army veteran of WWII, having served in Europe and the Battle of the Bulge, and was a member of the American Legion Post 251, VFW, and Sons of Hermann.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lorene Roznovak Koenig of El Campo; daughter, Portia Powell of East Bernard; grandsons, Troy Powell of Las Vegas and Blake Powell and wife Judy of Waco; great-granddaughter, Willow Brooke Powell; brother, Paul Koenig of Hallettsville; and sister, Hattie Krischke of Schulenburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bob, Bill, Charlie, Sam and Johnny Koenig; and sisters, Helen Niemeyer and Myrtle Wessels.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Triska Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at Christ Lutheran Church with the Rev. Pete Lopez officiating. Entombment will follow with military honors under the auspices of the American Legion Post 251 at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Lane Schoeneberg, Ray Palt, Rodney Koenig, Weldon Koenig, Greg Smaistrla, and Bennie Schramm.
Memorial donations in memory of Walter W. Koenig may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or donor's choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Triska Funeral Home.
