Lillie Frances Powell, 88, of Rocky Gap, Va., formerly of Avondale, W.Va., died Tuesday, April 15, 2008, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va.

Mrs. Powell was born September 14, 1919 in Paynesville, W.Va., a daughter of the late Iaeger and Annie Kennedy Roberts.

She was a homemaker and was affiliated with the Baptist faith. Mrs. Powell was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hassel Powell; one daughter, Carol Kennedy; one brother, Charlie Roberts; and four sisters, Mattie Reed, Mary Christian, Delphia Highberger, and Tavie Collins.

Survivors include two daughters, Martha Blankenship and husband Green of Rocky Gap, Va., with whom she made her home, and Charlotte Short and husband David of Centerburg, Ohio; three sons, Orville Powell and wife Beth of Springville, Va., David Powell and wife Linda of Beckley, W.Va., and Kenny Powell and wife Joyce also of Beckley, W.Va.; one sister, Sylvia Church of Iaeger, W.Va.; two brothers, Donnie Roberts of Bluefield, Va., and Quentin Roberts of Green Valley, W.Va.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted with her grandson, Speaker Orville Powell, officiating at the chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, W.Va.

Burial will follow in the Powell Cemetery on Coon Branch Mountain near Garland, W.Va.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
