Carolyn Sue Kennedy, 62, of Jolo, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born on April 1, 1944 in Rockridge, VA.
Carol was the daughter of Lillie Frances Roberts-Powell (1919-2008) of Rocky Gap VA, and the late Hassel Powell (1916-1993). Carol was a retired cook from the McDowell County School System, where for 26 years, she found great joy in all those she worked with, especially the school children.
Left to cherish her memory, in addition to her mother, are her husband of 46 years, Homer Kennedy; two daughters: Denise Kennedy-Vance and husband David Vance, and Rhonda Kennedy-Church, all of NC; two grandchildren: Megan Vance and Tyler Vance, also of NC. Other family members include three brothers: Orville Powell and wife Beth of Springville VA, David Powell and wife Linda Powell, and Kenny Powell and wife Joyce Powell, all of Beckley; two sisters: Martha Powell-Blankenship and husband Green Blankenship of Rocky Gap, VA, and Charlotte Powell-Short and husband David Short of Centerburg, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
The family, along with Pastor Bob Blevins and wife Oakie, will receive friends today, Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at The Bradshaw Mountain Community Church in Paynesville from 6:00-9:00 PM. Funeral services will be held and officiated by Pastor Blevins at the church on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Mullins Cemetery on Coon Branch Mountain in Iaeger.
