He was born on Nov. 16, 1918 at DeWitt County to Earle D. and Maude Hartsock Rainey. He married Barbara Ijams on June 24, 1943 at Clinton. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Thomas E. (Judy) Rainey, Robert D. (Cherie) Rainey and Samuel L. Rainey; one daughter, Carol A. (Dick) Sturgeon; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Mr. Rainey was a member of Clinton United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was a member of VFW. and the retired owner of Rainey & Sons Electrical Co., Clinton.
