Frank Heinrich August Scherer was born on December 28, 1891, in the sod home of his parents, Heinrich and Albertina Anna (Christian) Scherer one-half mile north of the Oliver County line. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Churchtown, and also received his schooling in the Churchtown community.

Minnie Anna Kalweit was born four miles northeast of Churchtown to August and Anna (Hartmonovski) Kalweit on June 1, 1896. She was baptized and confirmed by the Reverend William Klein at Churchtown. She also received her education in the Churchtown community. She was united in marriage to Frank Scherer on December 6, 1914, by the Reverend William Klein at Churchtown.

After their marriage, Frank and Minnie farmed south of Center until May 25, 1918, when Frank was inducted into the Army. He was sent to Camp Lewis, Washington. He served in Company D, 158th Infantry, to September 9, 1918: Company A, 128th Infantry to discharge. He was overseas from August 9, 1918, to April 7, 1919, seeing action in the battle of Neuse-Argonne. He was discharged at Camp Dodge, Iowa, on April 22, 1919 as a private.

Frank and Minnie again took up farming, but crop failures and drought forced them to move into Center in 1920. Frank joined his brother, Clarence, in forming the Scherer Motor Company, operating it until 1944, when the business was sold. Frank belonged to the American Legion. He held various positions in St. Paul's Lutheran Church and he also served on the Lincoln School Board. Frank died March 25, 1972, Minnie died October 24, 1979. Both were buried at Center, North Dakota. Frank and Minnie were the parents of two daughters: Erma and Cleo.

Erma was born May 28, 1923, at Center, North Dakota. She received her education at Center, graduating from Center High School. She served as deputy register of deeds of Oliver County until her marriage on February 1, 1942 to Merle Light. Merle Light was born at Center, North Dakota, on November 21, 1920, to Theodore and Eunice (Thatcher) Light. Merle served in World War II. In 1928 Merle and Erma moved to Fargo, North Dakota, where Merle graduated from NDSU with a Master's Degree. Erma worked in the city assessor's office until her death on January 13,1960. Erma is buried at Center, North Dakota. Merle Light died January 20, 1983, and is buried at Fargo, North Dakota. Merle and Erma had one daughter, Eunice.
