The Scherer name is a very common name in Germany. The Heinrich Scherer family history dates back to 1626, as recorded in the church records of the "Evangelical Church" in Breidenbach, Hesse, Germany. (Information supplied by Pfarrer Heinrich Scherer, Pastor in Nieden dieten, a descendant of family tree Scherer). The church at Breidenbach was begun in 913 A.D., housed in a wood frame and replaced by stone a few years later. Standing today, this church is the central directory for some 20 smaller churches. Two miles south of Breidenbach, lies the small town of Niederdieten, where Henrich Scherer was born to Jakob Scherer and Anna Elisabeth Ackenbach on September 29, 1847 in a home called "The Backes". This home stood until 1945, when it was destroyed by an allied fire bomb. A total of ten children were born in this home to Jakob and Elisabeth. Four children died in infancy.
