Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer (Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois), Monday, December 13, 1937:
Henry P. Stullken, among the oldest natives of Edwardsville and vicinity, died Monday morning at 5 o'clock at his home 323 South Buchanan street, where he resided since last summer after retiring from his farm, the vocation he had followed throughout life. Death was due to pneumonia and heart disease. He became ill last Thursday. His condition was not considered critical until a few minutes before he died.
Mr. Stullken was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Stullken, residents of Germany, who established a home during the early 50's. They were among a number who settled in Ft. Russell township. The parents acquired a farm near the junction of Alton and Bethalto roads and it has long been known as the Stullken homeplace.
Mr. Stullken was born on this farm July 11, 1859, being 78 years, 5 months and 2 days old when he died. He attended the Wanda school and remained on the farm until his marriage.
Mr. Stullken was married to Miss Emma Koch on March 24, 1886. They immediately established a home on the Troy Road where he was engaged in farming for 50 years. Last March, before leaving the farm, they observed their golden wedding anniversary.
Mr. Stullken was 16 years of age when confirmed and received as a member of the Immanuel M.E. Church in 1875. He took a great interest in church work and for a number of years was teacher of a young men's Bible class. For a number of years he was highway commissioner of Edwardsville township, serving under the law providing for three commissioners to handle the roads.
Mr. Stullken was the last member of his father's family, two sisters and two brothers preceding him in death. Besides his wife he is survived by six children. They are Louis A. Stullken, Raymond Stullken and Milton Stullken of this city, Mrs. Joel Zumwalt, Columbia, Mo., Mrs. Fred Pittman, East St. Louis, and Benjamin Stullken, St. Louis.
The body of Mr. Stullken is at the Marks Weber Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held there Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, thence to Immanuel M.E. Church at 2 o'clock. Rev. F.C. Stelzriede will officiate. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
