Delmer Doyle "D.D." Byas, 79, of Wichita Falls, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at the Tage Cemetery in Bowie, Rev. Jimmy Dillon, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.
A son of the late Charlie and Gertrude (Shockley) Byas, he was born July 1, 1924, in Lone Star, Texas. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II, as a member of the 113th Treadway Bridge Company and worked to build many bridges including the bridge over the Rhine River. On August 10, 1946, he married Jean Thompson in Hollister, California. Mr. Byas worked for nearly 30 years at Hamilton Bryan in Wichita Falls. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Weldon Byas and sister, Fern Little. "D.D." was a very special husband and a devoted father to his family. He was loved by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of over 57 years, Jean; sons, Jerry Byas and wife, Monte, Jack Byas and wife, Dianna, Donnie Byas and wife, Teresa, and Kenny Byas and wife, Ann; and daughter, Kathy Adams, all of Wichita Falls; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Aubrey Davis and Doris Dye, both of Fort Worth; also many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls and from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003 at Fry Funeral Home in Bowie.
For those desiring, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls or to the American Diabetes Association.
