Mrs. Selma Belle Conner, daughter of Parkison & Sarah Jane Williams, was born in Lucas county Iowa, January 17, 1870, and passed away in Chariton, Iowa, on September 19, 1944.
Mrs. Conner attended the public schools of Lucas county and Central College of Pella. She taught school for three years following her education.
She was married to William L. Conner in 1893. To this union the following children were born: Lloyd W. Conner, of Ottumwa; Ralph Conner, of Des Moines; Seasel Conner, of Peoria Ill.;Sgt. Albert M. Conner, of the US Air Corps, stationed in France; Mrs. Sarah Evans, of Chariton; and Laurel Conner, who died in childhood. Two Step-children, Everett Conner and Mrs. Ethel Wells, both of Chariton, and nine grandchildren also survive her. Brothers and sisters who mourn her passing are, Mrs Anna Wilson, of Centerville; Mrs. Hattie Layton, of Meade, Kansas; Mrs.Salene Berger, of Des Moines; Mrs. Nora McGinnis, S.L. Williams, C.E. Williams, M.E. Williams and F.A. Williams all of Chariton.
Mrs. Conner was a member of the Sharon Baptist Church, joining as a young woman. Her parents were among the first settlers of Lucas county, coming here before the Civil War.
A large number of friends as well as relatives mourn her departure and look forward to a reunion in the life to come.
Funeral services were held at the Sharon church at 2:30 Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E.F. Partridge of the Baptist church and burial was in Sharon cemetery.
