(Harold-Patriot, Chariton, Iowa, Thursday, May 5, 1932)
William L Conner, who has been a resident of Chariton for many years, died at his home in this city on Monday evening, May 2, about nine o'clock, at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 15 days, after an extended illness of two years with cancer. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Harry Secor, of the First Baptist Church, were held at the Sharon church on Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, followed by interment in the Sharon Cemetery.
William L Conner was born in Chariton, Iowa, on January 17, 1860. He was married here on August 5, 1893, to Belle Williams, who survives him. Nine children were born to them, one of whom, a son, Laurel, died in infancy. Those surviving are Lloyd, Ralph, Seasel and Harold, of Chariton, Iowa; Elbert, of Des Moines, Iowa; Everett, of Lacona , Iowa; Mrs. Wm. Evans, of Des Moines, and Mrs. Homer Wells, of Chariton. Others left to mourn their loss are seventeen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two half brothers Frank and Ira Worden, of Weldon, Iowa; two half sisters, Mrs. C.E. Tansey, of Weldon, Iowa, and Mrs. Wm. Langsdorf, of Des Moines, also two foster brothers and two foster sisters. Joe Vanderbur, of Denver, Colorado; Ben Vanderbur, of Lacona, Iowa; Mrs. Wesley Carpenter, of Chariton; and Mrs. Frank Rose, of Nampa, Idaho. He was an honest, upright citizen, highly esteemed by all who knew him, and numbered his friends by his acquaintances.
