Linda Mary Hendricks

Hendersonville, N.C. - Linda Mary Hendricks, 62, passed away at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Tex., on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010.

She was born to Nelson Machie and Grace Martha (Allan) Machie on Dec. 13, 1947, in New London.

Linda is survived by her second husband of 24 years, Frank M. Hendricks who lives in Hendersonville, N.C.; a son and daughter from her first marriage, David S. Beebe and his wife, Candie Carroll-Beebe, of Mystic and Jordana "Jodi" Beebe of Portland, Ore., two grandchildren, William and Samantha Beebe; and her siblings, Jo Ann Bombaci of Essex, John Machie of Skowhegen, Maine, Allan James of Dayville, Gail Beausoleil of Quinebaug, William Machie of San Diego, Calif., Raymond McCarthy of Terlton, Okla., and Donald Machie, whereabouts unknown.

She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Joseph Machie.

Linda grew up in Connecticut and Rhode Island and graduated from E.O. Smith High School in Mansfield in 1965. In her younger years, she worked as a chef and a waitress in fine dining establishments throughout Southeastern Connecticut. She then worked for Northeast Utilities at Millstone in Waterford, as a security guard and as secretary of the health physics department. She retired in her mid-40s when she and her family moved to Phoenix, Ariz. She and her husband Frank subsequently lived in Arkansas, Florida, and most recently in North Carolina.

Linda excelled at many hobbies including cooking, gardening, canning and preserving, quilting, genealogy, pyro-engraving, and Celtic design work and enjoyed activities such as photography and shuffleboard. Linda will be most remembered for her outgoing personality, altruism to strangers, those in need, and animals, and the love and joy she willingly gave to her family, friends, and pets.

On Dec. 13, 2010, Linda's cremains will be interred at the Durham Cemetery in Durham, followed by a celebration of Linda's life to be held nearby. For more details please contact her son David at (860) 514-2625.
