NEW BEDFORD -- Robert J. Machie, 51, of New Bedford died Saturday, June 18, 2005, at Blaire House after a six-month battle with esophageal cancer.
Born in New London, Conn., he was the son of the late Nelson J. and Grace (Allen) Machie. He moved to New Bedford in 1980.
He worked as a commercial fisherman out of this port on various boats, including the Angela W., Dinah Jane and most recently the Hen-Lee.
Mr. Machie will be sorely missed by family and friends, especially his laughter, smiling face and willingness to always be there for his friends.
Survivors include three sons, Brian Machie and his wife, Ruth, and Todd Machie, all of Providence, and Joseph Machie of North Carolina; five brothers, John Machie and his wife, Pauline, of Skowhegan, Maine, Al James of Dayville, Conn., William Machie of California, Raymond McCarthy of Largo, Fla., and David McCarthy of Tulsa, Okla.; three sisters, JoAnn Bombaci and her husband, Larry, of Essex, Conn., Gail Beausoliel and her husband, Kenny, of Quinebaug, Conn., and Linda Hendricks and her husband, Frank, of Largo; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
