CHARLES EMMETT ALLEN
Charles Emmett Allen, son of Milton Harvey Allen and Jennie Vance Allen, was born Sept. 2, 1872, in Lucas county, Iowa, near LaGrange, and died Dec. 7, 1944, at his home in Chariton, Iowa, following a heart attack. He was one of a family of seven children.
On September 29, 1898, Mr. Allen was married to Josephine Brandon at Melrose, Monroe county, Iowa, and they established their home on his farm north of LaGrange, where they lived until November, 1919, when they moved to Chariton and this place had since been their home.
Two sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Allen, Floyd Emmett and Carl Charles. Floyd preceded his father in death on April 29, 1927.
Early in life Mr. Allen united with the Presbyterian church at LaGrange. He was a kind and thoughtful husband and father and had a host of warm friends, who, with the relatives, will ever cherish him in their memories.
He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife, Mrs. Josephine Allen; one son, Carl; five grandchildren, Mrs. Frances Nichols, Frederick, Robert, Keith and Jack Allen; three brothers, William J. Allen, of San Diego, Calif.; John H. and Earl D. Allen, of Chariton; two sisters, Mrs. May Zimmerman, of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Mrs. Ursel A. Cassity, of Russell. One brother, Arthur, preceded him in death on Nov. 12, 1942.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Bonte Grussing, of the Presbyterian church, were held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon at the Beardsley funeral home, and burial was in the Chariton cemetery.
