Bess Pickens Stephenson

Funeral for Bess Pickens Stephenson, 85, of 1036 Sherman St. SE will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Steryous and the Rev. Frank Richards officiating.

Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery with Brown Service Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Stephenson died Friday at her residence. The family will receive friends today from 4 to 6 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stephenson was a retired co-owner of Pickens Wright Hardware, one of the founders of Grace Baptist Church, and a founder of the Trowlers Garden Club. She worked at Grace Baptist School for 17 years, and she was known as the "Good Morning Lady".

Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist's radio station, WBQM.

She is survived by one daughter, Flo Serner of Decatur; one brother, Herbert Norton of Nashville; one grandson; one great-granddaughter and one great-grandson.

Pallbearers will be Bill Carwile, Wayne Norton, Harry Jones, S.M. McAlister, Glenn Darby and James Matthews.
