Birton Miles Knapp was the son of John Richard Knapp and Abigail S. (Bardeen) Knapp. He married Virginia S. Martin on 28 July 1892 in Cedar County, Missouri and she died in 1936 at the home of her daughter, Elta B. (Knapp) Houston, in Denver, Colorado. In the 1940 US Federal Census of Fayette, Idaho, Birt M. Knapp is listed living with a wife named Mary E. born about 1870. The census lists both people as living in Cedar County, Missouri in 1935.
