Ancestry DNA results (several that are too low to be reliable) produced new information and a paper trail to the mother of John Richard Knapp. John is listed with his siblings and half siblings in the 1861 Macomb County, Michigan Probate of Sophia Elizabeth ( ) (Hutchison) Knapp. John's brother & Estate Executor was William Knapp and their sister was Rachel Knapp (died 1899), who married Gardner Briggs. FindAGrave memorial for Rachel Knapp Briggs is # 10410232.
John's mother, Sophia Elizabeth (Unknown Surname), first married John Hutchison [# 13771841] and they had the following children - half siblings to John Richard Knapp. All are listed in his mother's probate papers.

Children of Abigail and John were: Martha Sophia (Knapp) March, Milton Lebino Knapp, Bryon F, Knapp, Sheldon L. Knapp, Jennie E. (Knapp) Trent, and Burton/Birton Miles Knapp.
This John Richard Knapp may be confused with a DIFFERENT John R. Knapp who lived in East Fishkill, Dutchess, New York.
