William H. Fichthorn, 90, of Bowling Green, Ohio, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 10, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 1505 E. Wooster Street, Bowling Green, with Rev. David Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bowling Green. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 9, at Dunn Funeral Home, 408 W. Wooster Street, Bowling Green. Memorials are suggested to the William H. and Muriel A. Fichthorn Scholarship Fund in care of Bowling Green State University or to the charity of donor's choice.

Born May 12, 1919, in Marshall, he was the son of the late Claude and Marguerite (Bohn) Fichthorn. On Nov. 13, 1954, he married Muriel Anne Swett, who preceded him in death Aug. 7, 1998. He was a professor of finance at BGSU from 1965 to 1987, where he was named professor of finance emeritus in 1985. From 1968 to 1975, he was chairman of the department of finance and insurance. Previously, he was an associate professor of finance at Ohio University in Athens from 1955 to 1965, where he was chairman of the department of finance and insurance from 1961 to 1965. He earned the charter financial analyst (CFA) designation, was a member of the Council of Examiners of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts and was a member and past president of the Financial Analysts Society of Toledo.

After graduating from Missouri Valley College in Marshall, he earned a master's degree in business administration from Northwestern University before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his military service, he earned a doctorate in commercial science from Harvard Business School and served there as a research associate. From 1947 to 1951, he was employed as a financial analyst in Detroit and New York City.

He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where he was a member of The Vestry, a junior and senior warden and chairman of the finance committee. He was a member of the Torch Club of Toledo.

Surviving are one sister, Katharine Schanz of Laguna Woods, Calif.; a daughter, Catherine A. Weis and husband, Greg, of Dayton, Ohio; two sons, Norman W. Fichthorn and wife, Melissa, of McLean, Va., and Andrew P. Fichthorn and wife, Kim, of Poway, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and a nephew, William L. Schanz and wife, Susan, of Laguna Beach, Calif.
