Ellsworth Pritner Barrett, 'Ells', of South Bethlehem, Armstrong county, was born in Madison township, Armstrong County, August 17, 1872, son of Daniel W and Emeline (Duncan) Barrett, both natives of Armstrong county.

Ells P Barrett was brought up in Armstrong county, and educated in the common schools. At the age of seventeen he became employed as a coal miner, and ever since followed that line of work in Mahoning township, making his home in South Bethlehem since 1903. There he owned a comfortable home with pleasant surroundings and enjoyed the comforts of life. He was a hard-working man and gained all he enjoyed by honest labor.

Ellsworth P Barrett married Olive Leora Shumaker on April 10, 1894. Olive was the daughater of Solomon T and Alice (Mock) Shumaker of Mahoning township.

Ellsworth and Olive were the parents of 2 children:

m Ethel Bowser m Twila Snyder
Alice L 1904-2001 m Daniel Sterner

Ells was a member of the F.O.e. He served for three years on the school board of South Bethlehem and was a most public-spirited citizen. In politics he was a Republican.

Leader Times, Kittanning PA, Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1965:
Ellsworth Printer Barrett, 96, of 102 Hamilton St., South Bethlehem, died Monday (Sept. 6, 1965) in Brookville Hospital. He had been in poor health for the past several months.

Mr. Barrett, the widower of Olive L. Shumaker Barrett, who died Jan. 1, 1955, was born Aug. 17, 1869, at New Bethlehem RD 4, Armstrong County, and had lived all his live in the area.

A son of Daniel G. and Emaline Duncan Barrett, he was a miner by occupation, having worked for the Bostonia Coal Co. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America (UMW), Local 6439.

Mr. Barrett leaves one daughter, Mrs. Alice Sterner of South Bethlehem, three grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one brother, Ross T. Barrett of Kellersburg. A son, Daniel Gaylard Barrett, preceded him in death in 1936.

BARRETT – Friends of Ellsworth Printer Barrett of South Bethlehem, who died Monday (Sept. 6, 1965) are being received in John E. Riess Funeral Home, New Bethlehem, where funeral service will be held at 2 P.m. Wednesday, with Rev. True Spangler of First Methodist Church, New Bethlehem, officiating.

Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Distant. Arrangements by Riess.
