Alice L. Sterner, 96, of South Bethlehem, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at the Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sligo.

Born June 25, 1904, in South Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late Elsworth and Olive Shoemaker Barrett. Mrs. Sterner worked as a sales clerk for Sears, Diamond Department Store in Charleston, W. Va., and at the Comet Market. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of New Bethlehem, the Eagles Club, the VFW Club and the American Legion.

She was married in 1921 to Daniel H. Sterner, who preceded her in death in 1959. Surviving are a daughter, Verna Lee Styers of New Bethlehem; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Emma Sterner of Ambridge.

In addition to her parent and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert Sterner, on May 31, 2001; a brother, Gaylard; a grandson, William; and an infant grandson.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Rupert Funeral Home in New Bethlehem. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Sue Bonner, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of New Bethlehem, officiating.

Interment will follow at the New Bethlehem Cemetery.
