James R. Downs Jr.
James Raymond Downs Jr., age 78, of Boston, died on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, to be with his Lord. He was born on Aug. 9, 1926, in Fairfax to the late James R. Downs Sr. and Gladys Sherwood Downs. Mr. Downs was an honorary member of the Virginia Semmital Association, lifetime member of the Culpeper V.F.W. Post #2524, a past member of the Bull Run Lions Club in Gainesville, and past member of Salem Ruritan Club. Mr. Downs is survived by his wife Laura May Downs; two children, Cheryl Clear and her husband Ken of Boston and Steven Downs and his wife Deborah of Boston; sister Margie Sanborn of Front Royal; two granddaughters, Kimberly Ooten and her husband William and Wendy Fleming of Culpeper; three grandsons, Master Sgt. Jeffrey Miller Sr., USMC, who is currently serving in Iraq, and his wife Donna, Paul Clear of Haymarket, and David Clear of Silver Spring, Md.; and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dick and Johnny Downs and one sister Betty Riley. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, at Stonewall Memory Gardens with the Rev. Mark Cook officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve Downs, Jimmy Sanborn, Mark Sanborn, Harry Donnella, Jeffrey Miller Jr., and John Rettman. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeffrey Miller Sr. and Caleb Miller. Memorial contributions may be made, in his name, to the Salem Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 1254, Culpeper, VA 22701. Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is handling the arrangements.
